With the beginning of the digital transformation era, the exhibition industry has entered a new phase of evolution—an era in which change is no longer a choice, but an inevitable necessity. Today, the era of smart exhibitions has arrived, and artificial intelligence and digital technologies are rapidly becoming the core infrastructure of event organization.
Within this context, the project of launching the AI Visitor Assistant of the Khuzestan Oil Exhibition (Ahvaz Oil Show) can be regarded as the country’s first tangible and practical step along this path. Initiated several months prior to the exhibition, the project aimed to enhance visitor experience, increase exhibitors’ operational efficiency, and organize exhibition-related data. Today, through a conversational, AI-powered assistant, it presents a new image of Iranian exhibition management. (Click here to use the AI Assistant)

Part One: What Is the Khuzestan Oil Exhibition AI Assistant?

1. Definition and Nature of the Khuzestan Oil Exhibition AI Assistant
Simply put, this AI Assistant is an intelligence-driven website designed to help visitors enjoy a smart and purposeful exhibition experience. It operates as a web-based intelligent agent with deep expertise in the oil and drilling industry and full access to officially verified exhibition data.
Information related to companies, products, halls, specialized topics, and more is embedded within its data memory. Based on this knowledge, the AI Assistant supports a wide spectrum of visitors—from journalists and media professionals to industrial experts, academics, and the general public—helping them obtain relevant information efficiently.
By combining technical insight and scientific knowledge on one hand, and exhibition products and services on the other, the AI Assistant enables an effective and valuable visit for users with varying levels of expertise. It should also be noted that the assistant is multilingual and available worldwide, 24 hours a day.

2. Formation of the Idea and Design Process
The design of this AI Assistant was developed without modeling or imitating any domestic or international examples. Instead, it was formed entirely based on precise needs assessments, analysis of global trends, and research and development programs, resulting in a fully indigenous and independent solution.
Implementation was carried out by a young, dynamic, and motivated startup that successfully transformed existing capacities into an operational product. Although, given the accelerating pace of digital transformation worldwide, similar initiatives may emerge in other exhibition centers, no comparable system—with the same features and especially with such a significant time gap between launch and event execution—has been identified to date. Only one leading exhibition in Germany and one art exhibition in the United States have implemented concepts close to this idea.
Thus, the development path of this system was neither imitative nor luxury-driven or promotional, but firmly grounded in a precise understanding of real exhibition needs.

3. Why Is an AI Assistant Necessary?
Before the launch of this AI Assistant, most informational needs of visitors—and even exhibitors—were addressed through traditional and time-consuming methods. Visitors were often required to search through multiple files, catalogs, paper maps, exhibitor lists, various communication channels, and fragmented announcements to find a desired company or product.
Much information was transmitted orally through information desks or hall staff, which offered limited accuracy and became unmanageable during peak demand. Meanwhile, exhibitors relied largely on chance visits and traditional inquiries to attract relevant audiences, with no means to provide immediate, accurate, and personalized responses.
In practice, a significant portion of visitors’ time and energy was spent on navigation, identifying relevant companies, and manually comparing information. The AI Assistant eliminates this costly, slow, and disjointed cycle, replacing it with an integrated, fast, and intelligent experience.

4. Difference from Conventional Chatbots
The Khuzestan Oil Exhibition AI Assistant is fundamentally different from conventional chatbots. Chatbots typically reproduce pre-written texts in various forms. This AI Assistant, however, possesses an operational identity and active retrieval and decision-support capabilities.
It not only provides information, but also deeply understands conversational context, evaluates user intent and objectives, performs comparisons, and generates responses aligned with the user’s specific needs and level of expertise. This distinction clearly defines the boundary between a simple information tool and a true decision-support system.

5. No Separate Branding: Introducing a New Standard in Exhibition Services
The Khuzestan International Exhibition Center deliberately chose not to introduce a separate name or independent brand for the AI Assistant. This conscious decision stems from the understanding that the assistant is an integral part of the exhibition itself.
Its purpose is to enhance the quality of the Khuzestan Oil Exhibition—recognized as the country’s largest domestic-production exhibition—by providing an effective service and even defining a new standard in exhibition services. Rather than adding promotional layers, this initiative focuses on genuine process improvement, higher-quality interactions, and increased visitor satisfaction through the use of modern technologies.
Such a standard offers a clearer definition of a modern exhibition: one that delivers service rather than merely taking place, and one that persuades and engages its audience rather than simply hosting them.

6. Khuzestan Oil Exhibition: The Ideal Platform for Implementation
The Oil Exhibition is the flagship exhibition brand of Khuzestan Province and the largest domestic-production exhibition in Iran. In terms of exhibitor composition, it also represents the largest gathering of knowledge-based companies within a specialized exhibition.
Beyond its stature, the Khuzestan Oil Exhibition’s exceptional organizational discipline and early preparedness provided unique operational capacity for implementing this project. Participant composition, hall allocation, and exhibition maps are finalized months in advance, offering the technical team valuable time to develop and continuously update the AI Assistant.
Thanks to this structured preparation, the final version of the AI Assistant was completed two months before the exhibition, allowing extensive operational testing. The result was not only the project’s success in Khuzestan, but also the demonstration that similar systems can be deployed for other events—even those with shorter preparation timelines. Accordingly, the Khuzestan Oil Exhibition stands as a successful pilot and a practical national model.

Part Two: How the Exhibition AI Assistant Works

1. User Experience: Engaging Conversation Instead of Tedious Searching
Interacting with the AI Assistant feels like conversing with a highly knowledgeable human guide fully familiar with the exhibition. Without installing any application or registering, visitors can access ahvazoilshow.info via any web browser—from two months before the exhibition until several months afterward—and ask any exhibition-related question through a conversational interface.
Visitors may ask questions such as: “Which companies are active in drilling equipment?”, “What is the best route to visit Karun Hall?”, “What are the exhibition hours?”, or even technical questions such as “What solutions are suitable for controlling corrosion in downhole pumps?”, followed by “Which booths can help address this issue?”.
Without relying on menus or complex navigation, the AI Assistant delivers analytical, tailored responses—technical or simplified, depending on the user’s expertise—within seconds. For the first time in Iran and in many other countries, visitors can reach precise answers through natural-language conversation instead of searching through lists and files.

Part Three: Advantages, Strategic Importance, and Impact of the Exhibition AI Assistant

1. Increased Productivity and Transformation of Visitor Experience
By eliminating common exhibition confusion, the AI Assistant replaces random exploration with targeted and purposeful discovery. Visitors can quickly identify relevant companies, design optimal visitation routes, and enter halls with full awareness.
This seemingly simple change results in a significant enhancement of visitor experience, higher-quality interactions, improved time efficiency, and increased overall satisfaction.

2. Empowering Exhibitors and Redefining Targeted Visibility
Exhibitors who previously relied on traditional, chance-based interactions now engage with visitors who are already familiar with their products and services. This leads to increased marketing effectiveness, reduced scattered costs, and stronger, more meaningful business connections.
In practice, targeted visibility replaces mere display, resulting in tangible improvements in exhibitors’ return on investment.

3. A Multi-Day Exhibition with a Multi-Month Window
A strategic element of this project is the activation of the AI Assistant from two months before the exhibition until several months afterward. This transforms the exhibition from a short-term event into a continuous and dynamic platform.
Visitors can explore and prepare in advance, engage effectively during the event, and follow up afterward. This shift in the exhibition lifecycle represents a practical first in Iran and many other countries. Moreover, it realizes one of the most discussed themes in global exhibition research: a truly personalized visitor experience enabled through a real pre-exhibition phase.

4. Creating a Data Asset for Intelligent Governance
One of the most significant outcomes of this initiative is the creation of a dynamic, aggregated, non-personal data bank derived from visitors’ real behaviors, interests, and needs, fully aligned with data privacy standards.
This data can inform future exhibition planning and even contribute to industrial policy design, giving concrete meaning to the concept of a data-driven exhibition and opening the path toward intelligent governance in Iran’s exhibition industry.

5. Social Responsibility and Employment Development
Another key achievement of this project is fulfilling an essential aspect of exhibition centers’ social responsibility. By providing verified information, the AI Assistant enables job seekers and students seeking internships to connect purposefully with relevant companies.
This capability transforms the exhibition from a product showcase into a dynamic network of public services, professional opportunities, and human connections—strengthening its role in human capital development and specialized employment creation.

Conclusion
The Khuzestan Oil Exhibition AI Assistant is not merely a technological tool or isolated project. First and foremost, it serves as a data-driven and communication infrastructure for the exhibition, and secondly, as a practical model of the future of event management in Iran—one that can be replicated nationwide.
This experience demonstrates that by combining strong organizational discipline with modern technologies, national events can be transformed and Iran’s exhibition economy can enter a new era of data-driven insight and analytical capability.
